Our Approach

Communication & Fit

Marla's Family Care always values open and respectful communication. Regular check-ins are standard, and feedback is welcome at any time. It is important that this experience is a collaboration in postpartum care, if something isn't working lets discuss how to improve it.

Custom Methodology

As each snowflake is unique, so are you and your family. Each family unit works differently. The approach is an integration of your preferences and parenting choices.  Your postpartum doula adapts support style to align with your values and household dynamics. The goal is to support your choices, not impose personal philosophy.

Empowering Families

Postpartum doula support is about holding space during one of life’s most vulnerable transitions. Successful support looks like parents feeling capable, supported, and informed—not dependent.

Your postpartum doula offers a compassionate, nonjudgmental support and a calm, grounding presence. With experience in recognizing signs of postpartum anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm your postpartum doula can gently encourage additional professional support and referrals when appropriate. Parents are supported, heard, and never alone.

Marla's Family Care has supported families for over 30 yearsthrough a wide range of postpartum experiences, including first-time parents, planned and unplanned C-sections, NICU transitions, multiples, and families navigating postpartum anxiety. The need for a support community after birth is one that MFC is a happy consistent participant of, offering guidnace, care, and support to new families since starting the motherhood journey in 1983.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Marla's Family Care is covered by professional business/liability insurance that is required for all licensed doulas.

What does a typical shift look like?

There is no "typical" shift. Shifts are dictated by the specific and custom needs of your family. One family might be having their first child, while another is integrating a newborn into a family with children, or even how to have successful baby integration with a pet.

Some families might need overnight care, while others might need morning or evening support. We will talk, at length, about your family's unique needs during the consultation/intake. Shift services and support will be clearly laid out within your contract.

Is emotional and mental health support provided?

Absolutely! The postpartum period can be emotionally intense especially for experienced mothers and families. Your postpartum doula approaches your time together with compassion and no judgement - each journey is unique.

You can expect your postpartum doula to provide a calm, grounding presence, while listening deeply to mom's needs which can help normalize the wide range of emotions that can arise after birth.

While MFC does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions, your doula does know when to gently encourage additional professional support and can help families with trusted resources when needed.

What type of feeding support do you provide?

Whether you are breastfeeding, pumping, formula feeding, or a combination of methods, your postpartum doula's role is to help feeding feel more manageable and less stressful.

Your postpartum doula has formal training in basic lactation support, including positioning, latch troubleshooting, and pumping logistics. When more specialized care is needed, you can expect effective collaboration with chosen lactation consultations and other professionals as needed.

How you choose to feed your new baby is always honored and respected.
